Trace the Living Word is the original traceable Bible, the first of its kind, designed to bring Scripture into your hands, not just your eyes. By tracing each word, you create a hand, body, mind, and heart connection to God's Word that transforms reading into a daily contemplative practice. Whether you're deepening a lifelong faith or finding a new way in, tracing makes Scripture personal and present.
This book is our first hardback, and it was made to answer one request we kept hearing: a tracing Bible you can carry. So we built it the way the best journals are made. A5 hardcover, section-sewn so it opens fully flat and stays bound through months of daily writing, specialty Japanese paper that takes fountain pen and ballpoint beautifully, and a ribbon to keep your place. It is a journal in every way but one, instead of writing your own thoughts, you write His.
The paper is the heart of this book. It took me half a year to find a specialty 80gsm Japanese paper made for long hours of writing. The first time I wrote on it, the only words I could find were pillowy smooth, like writing on clouds. It is truly the best paper I've ever written on, especially over a long sitting, and I'm so grateful we get to use it in our books. I wanted the paper itself to honor the time you give to this practice, so that writing His Word isn't just copying Scripture, but a devotional experience, and one you fall in love with.
What makes it special is the way it is made. The fibers sit looser and airier than ordinary paper, which gives the sheet its light, supple, slightly cushioned feel. Papers like this are genuinely difficult to produce: the mill has to preserve that airy softness while keeping the surface strong enough to hold ink cleanly, so the sheet is formed slowly and with great care. That is why it feels the way it does under the pen, and why the ink still sits clean and sharp on the page. The pages are light and easy to turn, and the paper has high opacity, so writing on one side shows very little on the other.
The cover is black with simple gold foil at the head and spine, quiet on purpose.
It is printed and bound in Japan by artisan bookbinders with generations of experience. And their work speaks in every detail, the sewn spine, the way the book lies fully flat open, and the rounded corners.
Inside are all 150 Psalms, 2,461 verses in the Berean Standard Bible, a modern English translation rendered in clear, present-day language while staying close to the original Hebrew and Greek. Our wire-o editions are King James; this is our first book in the BSB, and the first traceable Bible ever offered in this translation. The verses appear in a soft grey tracing font that gently guides your hand, and the Father's words are set in blue, so His voice stands apart on the page as you write.
There's a pen test page at the back, so you can try your pens and inks before you begin. Our pen recommendations are on the site.
